Halloween Netflix suggestions

This is not a sponsored post I just have a deep love for Netflix!

For most people, Halloween is all about the costumes, the trick-or-treating, the house decor and the candy.

Growing up in Australia my mother never allowed us to trick-or-treat, not that there would be any houses handing out free candy for an American holiday in the 90’s and we lived in the hills so were too far away from any close houses to try and walk around the neighbourhood anyway.

To celebrate this spooky holiday we always went to blockbuster and rented the scariest movies we could stomach and buy big bags of lollies to calm our nerves. Then spend the weekend scaring ourselves silly with movies that would haunt us for months to come.

For that reason, I have always equated Halloween with scary movies and TV shows. Now that I own a regularly used and extremely cherished Netflix subscription I can spend the rest of October treating myself to some terrifying TV!

Number 1 – The Haunting of Hill House

“Flashing between past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories from their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.”

I have heard fantastic things about The Haunting of Hill House, all my sisters have seen it and insist that I watch it but Dylan has banned me from watching it when he is in the house as he saw a snippet on Netflix the other day and it scared him too much.

Number 2 – The Curios Creations of Christine McConnell

“Wickedly talented baker and artist Christine McConnell fills her home with haunting confections, creepy crafts, and wildly inappropriate creatures.”

This show just looks absolutely wonderful combining my love of sweets and something a little spooky, I cannot wait to watch this. I think it is something Dylan would be far more likely to want to watch!

Number 3 – Haunted

Real people giving recounts of their run-ins with the paranormal with re-created scenes and re-enactments. That sounds scary and interesting, I am not really a believer as such but I love an awkward re-enactment scene!

Number 4 – Errementari: The Blacksmith and the Devil

“A brutal blacksmith tortures a demon he blames for his misery, unaware a trespassing orphan is about to change everything.”

Blacksmiths, demons and orphans, you just know that this movie is going to be good. I have heard that it isn’t super scary so we will see. This movie is based on Basque folklore, which I have never heard of and am certainly intrigued about.

Number 5 – Apostle

“In 1905, a drifter on a dangerous mission to rescue his kidnapped sister tangles with a sinister religious cult on an isolated island”

All the advertising I have seen for this movie just looks scary and getting mixed up with a sinister religious cult is only going to end badly for him. This is another one that I think I will be watching on my own.

Number 6 – MaleVolent

“A brother-sister team who fake paranormal encounters for cash get more than they bargained for when a job at a haunted estate turns very, very real.”

This sounds like a grown-up version of the movie The Brothers Grimm with Heath Ledger and Matt Damon (one of my favourite movies). I think this will be interesting and something I may possibly be able to con Dylan into watching with me.

There you have a list of the movies I plan to watch this Halloween, I will also, of course, be watching Harry Potter from start to finish as I always do around Halloween. Side note I almost wrote a very scathing letter to Netflix when they removed the Harry Potter movies from the site, thankfully I now have the box set.

What are your suggestions for movies or series to watch this Halloween?

Do you have a favourite Halloween movie?

Will you be trick-or-treating this year? If so what are you going to wear?

Happy Halloween!!
