Once again it is an new month which means another wonderful box of vegan goodies from The Vegan Box. This month’s box had this amazing aroma as soon as I took it out of the postage bag, I believe it was all emanating from the Vegan Chai mix which I was thrilled to find.
This box has taken me a few days to review as I like to take my time and enjoy everything that is provided in the box rather than stuffing my face as soon as I get it and then uploading a review (which I have been known to do).
The monthly box contains 5 to 8 products, snacks, superfood or skincare, ranging in sizes from full, sample and travel sized items. All items are vegan and 100% Palm Oil Free and will only set you back $26.95 per month plus $3.95 shipping to Australia and is completely worth it.
Before we get into this review, I have purchased this Vegan Box with my own money and all opinions are 100% my own.
So lets get down to business shall we…….
3.5g per straw / Mulit Pack Sampler / Valued at $2.50
“Place straw in 250 ml of chilled soy or nut milk, and sip to enjoy a fun drink with less than 1/2 a teaspoon of sugar!”
So I have a bit of a confession to make with these straws, I didn’t actually try them myself. I have always had a issue with milk just the sight of milk makes me ill, so much so that I cannot consume any soy or nut milks on their own they must be hidden in coffee or smoothie. Luckily I have a wonderful husband who was willing to warm up a cup of soy milk and give these bad boys a go. He had the chocolate straw (he’s saving the other flavours) and would absolutely recommend them, he loves the and wants to buy more.
40g / Full Sized / Valued at $24.95
“Detox, tone, revitalise, remove blackheads, reduce pores, smooth rough skin, reduce signs of ageing and recover from breakouts.
Firstly let me say how over joyed I was to find a mud mask in this months box and then to see it was full sized, my heart leapt! Once my joy started to subside I suddenly began to wonder whether I would be able to use this whilst pregnant, I headed over to their website to see if it was safe. Thankfully it is, as is most of their products and so I proceeded to slather my face in mud. A little bit goes a long way with this mud and once it drys it becomes slightly tight, I found it a little difficult to wash off with a warm cloth so ended up jumping in the shower and washing the rest off under the water.
I will certainly be using this mud again and will be trying out a few of their other products.
100g / Full Sized / Valued at $7.95
“68% Organic Cacao sourced from Madagascar. Origin Chocolate Makers source the finest cacao beans from around the world to create real chocolate as it should be enjoyed!”
I haven’t really eaten much chocolate since finding out I was pregnant, mainly because I am trying to stay healthy but seeing a giant block of chocolate in the box made my eyes light up. My thought was immediately if the chocolate is in my house I have to eat it, I just can’t let it go to waste. This chocolate is pretty intense, it is a really strong cacao taste but still sweet, its the kind of chocolate where you have a small square and that is enough to keep your chocolate cravings at bay for a couple of days.
I feel like 100 grams is almost too much when the chocolate is this strong and I love strong chocolate but this is the strongest I have ever eaten. I imagine this block might last me till the end of this pregnancy.
40g / Quarter Packet / Valued at $3.95
“Aromatic fusion of black tea, Indian Spices, organic rice malt syrup and fresh ginger root.”
First off I love the name, made me chuckle which means I am more likely to buy it again (I am a sucker for a pun). Now onto the important stuff, I love Chai. It is one of my favourite things to drink so I was beyond happy to find this little bag in the box this month. The whole box smelled wonderful purely because of the tea so I knew it would be strong. I made my tea on the stove top and whilst it takes a little more effort than a usual cup of tea its 100% worth it. The tea is aromatic and soothing, with the rice malt syrup adding a touch of sweetness. I wish I had known about this tea during my first trimester as I am sure the added ginger root would have helped with my occasional bout of morning sickness. I would suggest picking up this bad boy even if you aren’t a fan of Chai its that good.
20g / Single Serve / Valued at $2.95
“A rich fusion of raw cacao and black strap molasses that improves memory and boosts iron and serotonin levels. A convenient smoothie booster, containing 10+ organic ingredients designed by a nutritionist.”
I absolutely loved this smoothie bomb, I have never been and will never be a morning person so when I find something that helps my morning run smoother I get pretty excited. This smoothie bomb made my normal bland banana and oat smoothie taste decadent and far better than anything I have made myself before. I noticed that I had more energy through out the morning and was not reaching for a sugary treat at 11:30am like I normally do.
I plan on buying the whole range and adding them to my morning smoothies to help enhance the flavour and also the nutrients.
70g / Full Sized / Valued at $3.95
“Organically grown coconuts, cut into thick chips, lightly seasoned with certified organic chilli and natural sea salt, and then dry roasted. That’s it! Simple and super-yum!”
So Dylan and I tried these together as neither of us are particularly good with spicy food, these chips will not immediately spicy certainly have some heat to them. Neither of us could eat more than one chip, I also found that they still had quite a coconut-y flavour and when you had a taste of the salt, spice and coconut all at once I thought it tasted a little strange and wasn’t a fan. I tried a few coconut chips and am yet to find one that I actually like, I guess I am just really fussy when it comes to coconut.
That’s my thoughts on Octobers Vegan Box, there where some hits and some misses but overall a pretty good box. I will be buying more chai and the pig mud face mask once they run out but I imagine that is all I will be purchasing.
Did you get October’s Vegan Box?
What did you think?
Do you have a coconut chip I should try?
